Air freight forwarding from India

Uplift from Ahmedabad, Delhi and Mumbai when the sailing has gone and the buyer will not wait.

Air freight is bought for one of two reasons: the goods are worth more than the freight, or the delay costs more than the freight. Either way the arithmetic is the same — chargeable weight is whichever is greater, actual gross weight or volume divided by 6000. We work it out from your carton dimensions before quoting, so the invoice matches the estimate.

Consolidated, direct and charter

Consolidated uplift on our own house air waybills gives the lowest rate and adds a day or two at each end. Direct on a master air waybill is faster and more traceable, and is the default for pharmaceutical and high-value consignments. Full or part charter is worth pricing when a production line is stopped or a shipment has to move as one piece.

Temperature-controlled and dangerous goods

Active and passive cold chain for pharmaceutical and life-science cargo, booked against the actual ambient profile of the routing rather than a nominal figure. Dangerous goods accepted under IATA DGR with declaration, packing and labelling checked before the shipment is tendered — because an airline refusal at the terminal costs a full day and a re-pack.

Where we uplift from

Ahmedabad (AMD) for Gulf and connecting long-haul. Delhi (DEL) for the widest freighter capacity to Europe and North America. Mumbai (BOM) for pharmaceutical and high-value corridors. We move cargo by bonded trailer between them when the capacity is better elsewhere, and we say so rather than quietly holding your cargo for a flight that has not opened.

Ahmedabad Air Cargo Complex, and when to use it instead of Mumbai

The Air Cargo Complex at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (AMD) handles the bulk of Gujarat's export uplift, and for most consignments leaving Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot or Morbi it is the shorter, cheaper route. Cargo is accepted, screened and built up on site, so a shipment tendered by the afternoon cut-off is normally on a same-night or next-morning departure.

Mumbai (BOM) is the right choice when the destination has no reasonable connection out of Ahmedabad, when the consignment is large enough to justify a direct wide-body, or when a specific carrier's allocation is only available there. The trade-off is roughly 600 km of road, an extra handover and a longer dwell before uplift — worth it on a wide-body direct, rarely worth it on a small consignment.

We file the air waybill, arrange screening and dangerous-goods documentation where it applies, and give you the flight number and the AWB before the truck leaves the factory, so the shipment is trackable from the moment it is out of your hands.

Questions we get asked

Air freight — common questions

How is air freight chargeable weight calculated?

Volume in cubic centimetres divided by 6000 gives volumetric weight in kilogrammes. You are charged on whichever is greater, that or the actual gross weight. Light bulky cargo is therefore almost always charged on volume.

How fast is air freight from India to Europe?

Two to four days airport to airport on a direct or single-connection routing, and four to seven days door to door once pick-up, security screening and destination clearance are included.

Can you move dangerous goods by air?

Yes, under IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, subject to class, packing group and the operator’s own acceptance list. We check acceptability before booking rather than at the terminal.

What documents does an air shipment need?

Commercial invoice, packing list, shipping bill, air waybill, and where applicable a certificate of origin, a dangerous goods declaration, or a phytosanitary or health certificate.

How are air freight rates per kg worked out?

The published rate is per kilogramme of chargeable weight, and it steps down at break points, usually +45, +100, +300 and +500 kg. On top of the rate sit fuel and security surcharges, terminal handling at both ends, the air waybill fee and screening. A quotation showing only the per-kg figure is not the price you will pay, so ours shows the surcharges as separate lines.

Where is the Ahmedabad air cargo complex and can you clear there?

The Air Cargo Complex sits at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD). We handle acceptance, screening, customs filing and uplift there directly, which for most Gujarat exporters is quicker and cheaper than trucking to Mumbai.
